What is Semantic Web?

Posted on December 9, 2014 by Sema

Internet provides convenience and enhanced functionalities at the same time. Every web user enjoys web surfing more or less, however, continuous researches are being conducted to make things even better for them at the same time. Semantic web is a technology enhancement that has found adorability among the researchers off late. Through this technology, it is possible to have a common framework which can help processing data searched with help of machines. Certain industries have already benefitted with help of semantic web such as publishing, social networking industry and blogging. Continuous researches are being conducted to make semantic web scripts more beneficial, so that it can be used for other industries as well.

All these being said, it has to be acknowledged that semantic web has not found appreciation among the entire web community. People are not prone to accept changes all the time and it usually takes some time for them to adopt to the changes.

Incidentally, it was Tim Berners-Lee who had the original vision of having computers with ability to make data analysis on their own over the internet. Such analysis should be done on the links, contents and transactions between computers and users. Therefore the concept of intelligent agents came into place through which our day to day online transactions are now made easier.

Semantic Web Scripts and Resource Description Framework

Posted on December 9, 2014 by Sema

The big challenge behind success of semantic web scripts is to make machines understand the human language. Therefore, the concept of Resource Description Framework came into existence. It is a language through which the information and resources in the World Wide Web is explained. If you add any information to the Resource Description Framework or RDF file, it becomes easier for the machines to search, discover, analyze and process the information. For describing a particular resource, RDF uses XML tags and these are read by machines. Scripting Resource Description Framework may sound very easy to complete, however, it gives even the most experienced developers a very tough time to develop the same.

It is not only about the tags, but machines require logics and documents for processing the information in a proper manner. Through documents, it is possible to understand the description of the words and through logic, the relationship between two words can be understood. These are termed as schemata and ontology. Through schema, the information is properly organized, whereas, ontology helps in describing the exact object and how these relate with each other.

With everything mentioned above, it can be easily deduced that for success of semantic web scripts, the role of Resource Description Framework is extremely important and so as the proper structuring of all the information.

How Semantic Web Scripts Help to Bridge the Gap Between Machine Language and Human Language?

Posted on December 9, 2014 by Sema

Undoubtedly, the World Wide Web is a big place with all sort of tools being present. However, the effectiveness highly depends on the skills and resourcefulness of the person who is using internet as well. Things certainly would have been better if internet had its own functional mind. Just like a thinking person, if it could bridge the gap between human understandable language and machine understandable language, things certainly would have been better. This is exactly where semantic web scripts come into place.

So, how web pages can be easily read by machines? Simply by adding Meta tags to the same. Therefore these machines can interpret information in a better manner and can communicate the same to other information repositories spread throughout the world. This calls for better results being provided by the search engines, with less effort.

Functioning of World Wide Web Consortium

Also known as W3C, it is an international standard body which promotes semantic web development and its usage. It is the duty of W3C, to create a common framework, over which information can be reused and freely shared. Machines usually cannot understand the meaning of each and every word, rather it works on the syntaxes. The purpose of semantic web scripts is to bridge this gap and make machines understand the actual meaning of the words in online searches. Web development is an important part of any business, that is why businesses such as Expedition Co. are needed to make sure this is being done correctly and is working within the system and software.

How Can Semantic Web Produce Better Search Results?

Posted on December 9, 2014 by Sema

There is no doubt that semantic web is an innovative technology and it is expected to change the way in which information is interpreted and exchanged throughout the World Wide Web. Though most of the users are not familiar with semantic web scripts yet, but, this can definitely play a big role in making information more understandable and even complex searches can produce better results with it. Here metadata is used for conducting the search as it is going to clearly identify what a user is actually looking for. Therefore, the search is basically redefined as well. Users cannot really see metadata in any possible way, however, computers can identify who created these, the date or time of creation and location where the same was created. Metadata is all the time whether it’s a website using it to tell Google what’s on the domain or book metadata to optimize their Amazon sales – it’s not a new concept.

Semantic web is all about letting user set his own preferences into a computerized agent. It is the duty of the agent then to search and present the most accurate results. Metadata itself will not conduct any search. However, it will identify the best possible results depending on the past habits and preferences of the user. If a user informs about his bad experience about a specific website, metadata will make sure that the same website is not included in the search process for that user again.

Advantages of Using Semantic Web Technology

Posted on December 9, 2014 by Sema

Semantic web scripts have taken the internet world by a storm. Especially when it comes to online searching, semantic scripts have become very handy off late and the entire search process has been made easier for the users. Some of the advantages that you can expect to have with these scripts are mentioned below:

  • You will find better search results with these scripts and overall time & effort will be minimized as well. Not only the companies focusing on consumers will be helped, but individuals will be helped with this enhanced search mechanism too.
  • The data that the World Wide Web has in it is only going to grow with time. Managing everything can therefore become a tough job with passing time and semantic web scripts can help right there. As through these scripts, a high volume of data is handled for every single search, overall efforts are reduced as well. Please understand that through this search mechanism intent of the user is kept in mind, not certain specific keywords or the usage of the same in the search string.
  • The process of gathering information for the industries will change as the search results are bound to become more intelligent. Therefore, from an investment perspective, they will know where to put their money into for receiving higher returns on the overall investment.

Semantic Web – The Solution to Improve on Search with More Meaningful and Relevant Results

Posted on May 30, 2005 by

Semantic web is an innovative technology in the Worldwide Web that will have a strong impact on the field of research and how information is exchanged and interpreted. This technology is a new development that most web users are not familiar with; however, it is a way to make information more understandable and at the same time allow more complex searches with more accurate results. The search is simplified by using metadata that will clearly identify what you are looking for and define the search to provide the best results. Metadata is not significantly visible to users and it is difficult to identify by simply looking at them but computers have the capability to identify who created it, the time and date of creation and the location where the data was created including other pertinent information related to its creation.

How semantic web works

Ordinarily, if one was to search for a product over the web, the best option is to search through retailer’s websites and make comparisons as to the best products for the more affordable prices. You exert efforts with the search in order to arrive at the website that can provide for your requirements. However, with semantic web, you have a better option since you can simply enter your preferences into a computerized agent who will do the search and arrive at the best possible results. The agent will not be the handling the search the usual way but will use metadata which will clearly identify and define past preferences and habits. If the user has encountered a bad experience with a website, the agent will know that it should never be used in the search again.

Potential advantages of using semantic web

  • It will definitely improve search results and will minimize the time and efforts handled in the search which will in effect benefit not only consumer-focused companies looking for specific sites in the Web but individuals as well.
  • As the amount of data in the web continues to grow, it becomes a hardship to manage a search which severely affecting productivity. High volume of transactions is handled every minute which significantly increases available data making it highly improbable for people to handle an easy search using specific keywords. With semantic web, the search is based on intent and not the use of specific keywords.
  • Semantic technology will change the typical industry efforts at gathering information since they can avail of more intelligent search results from the various search engines. Investment wise, they will know the specific areas where they can expect higher returns on their investment.

Search is critical for every enterprise involved in the Web not only for pursuing investment opportunities but effective collaboration with other industries. With the wealth of information and data on the Worldwide Web, everyone is no stranger to how difficult a search becomes faced with the burgeoning amount of content. The semantic solution is technology that one can look forward to as it increases the use of more relevant information and meaningful results more than can be gained from the traditional search.
